Southeast Georgia Rural Community Network Receives Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer Award

The Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer (GAABC) awarded the Southeast Georgia Rural Community Network a $25,000 grant.  The GAABC is the producer of the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. This grant will fund the network's Breast Health Program in the Toombs and surrounding counties of Southeast Georgia.

Network Executive Director Dr. Susan McLendon commented, "Over the last ten years, we have received grant funding from It's the Journey, which recently changed its name to the Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer.  These funds and partnerships with five regional hospital systems have provided screening mammograms and diagnostic services for men and women in a 17-county area. Participants are eligible for mammogram services if they are uninsured and meet financial screening requirements." Dr. McLendon wants to express a special thank you to Robyn Banks, Anna Claxton, and their Steppin for Tatas team that participate in the Georgia 2-Day Walk each year, which allows us to bring the funds HOME and serve those that need help accessing this life-saving resource.

 About US

Vision and Mission:

Southeast Georgia Rural Community Network (SGRCN).The SGRCN was formed on January 27, 2014, and was incorporated in June 2014; the Network received 501(c) 3 status in December 2014. The service area includes Montgomery, Toombs, Treutlen counties, and surrounding rural areas.

The original goal of the network project was to create the Southeast Georgia Rural Healthcare Collaborative (SGRHC), an interdisciplinary Rural Health Network of community agencies. The SGRHC goal was to coordinate quality care to uninsured and underinsured rural residents of Montgomery, Treutlen, and Toombs Counties of Southeast Georgia.  The Network also wanted to improve opportunities for families to make healthy choices by reducing barriers and providing education, activities, and resources for affordable wellness choices.  Since health outcomes are impacted by multiple physical, social, economic, and environmental factors, network members decided to change the formal name to the Southeast Georgia Rural Community Network, Inc. (SGRCN).     In-kind donations, as well as state and foundation grants, sustain the community network programs. The SGRCN meets quarterly to discuss partnership activities, ongoing community needs, and funding opportunities.
